Garden Route 3 Days Safari
For an outstanding wildlife experience just a few hours outside of Cape Town, a Garden Route safari at the beautiful Gondwana Game Reserve offers the perfect safari destination on the coast of the Western Cape. Set on 11,000-hectares, Gondwana is one of the only fynbos reserve in the world, and here you can enjoy a host of game and bird-viewing opportunities as well as all the magnificence of the stunning Garden Route and its natural habitats. To add the final touch to this Cape safari experience, accommodation is set in luxurious rooms, bush villas or Kwena huts, ensuring a great nights’ sleep during each of the two nights of this safari.
Some of the highlights of our Gondwana safari include the following:
Game Viewing and Bird Watching
Gonwana is home to a number of game and bird species, with all of the Big Five to be found (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo) as well as other game species such as the Cape Mountain Zebra, springbok, kudu, eland, red hartebeest and gemsbok. The reserve is one of the only free-roaming game reserves in this area, which further adds to your Cape safari experience. Bird species that you may come across in the reserve include bar-throated apalis, pied avocet, Cape Batis, European Bee-eater, Southern red bishop, yellow bishop, Eurasian bittern, Cape canary, peregrine falcon, ostrich, eagle, sunbird and fiery-necked nightjar to name but a few. Make sure to bring along a pair of binoculars to see how many local and migratory species you can spot.
Indigenous Fynbos
Gondwana is renowned for its huge expanses of fynbos, and in fact, this is one of the only fynbos reserves in the world. Fynbos is an indigenous plant species that represents an entire floral kingdom – this natural vegetation includes Protea and other wildflowers, growing only in the Western Cape. The huge volume of fynbos across the reserve turns the landscape into a striking natural display of colour during spring, as wildflowers all over the reserve begin to bloom – providing one of the most spectacular sights on any Garden Route safari. The fynbos is also an important habitat for many insects, birds and other animals.
Garden Route
The Garden Route area takes its name from the lush, green vegetation of this area. Situated within the Western Cape, the Garden Route forms a gateway to many Eastern Cape travel destinations, and is flanked by the ocean on one side and forested mountains on the other side. Popular travel hotspots within the area include the sleepy town of Mossel Bay, in which Gondwana is situated, as well as the towns of Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Nature’s Valley and Tsitsikamma. The area is just a few hours drive from Cape Town, and the outstanding scenery, large number of nature reserves as well as a host of fun activities makes the Garden Route one of the top destinations for tours in Cape Town.
