Itinerary

Day 1

The Cape Whale Coast Route, South Africa

We begin our tour departing from beautiful mother city of Cape Town traveling to the town of Hermanus via the many vineyards. We briefly stop along the way, visiting the largest breeding colony of African Penguin, Stony Point Nature Reserve. At certain times of year (July to November) you may be lucky and spot a southern right whale as we make our way to Hermanus.

Day 2

Route 62 – Oudtshoorn, South Africa

Today we drive across Hottentots-Holland Mountains, setting out for the Klein Karoo and travelling towards Oudtshoorn and, time permitting, stop at Ronnie’s Sex Shop which is not a sex shop at all, but rather an interesting countryside pub. We end the day with a guided tour of the magnificent Cango Caves. We will spend the evening in Oudtshoorn.

Day 3

Heart of Garden Route, South Africa

We make our way over the Outeniqua Mountains to the lovely Garden Route coastline where our first stop for the day is the quirky George Museum. Over the next couple of days we will spend the time hiking, relaxing at the beach and partaking of the many optional activities available.

Day 4 – 5

Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa

Today can be spent at leisure relaxing on the beaches, participating in a variety of optional activities available and exploring the surroundings areas of Nature’s Valley. To make sure your time is spent well, the truck will run a set a schedule so that you are free to join or leave the places that may be of interest to you.

The following morning we have a relaxing breakfast before making our way to Tsitsikamma National Park, one of South Africa’s premier marine reserves. Here we will have the opportunity to explore the rugged coastline on foot or by tree tops. You can choose a hike along the first section of the Otter trail, or a leisure walk to the Storms River Mouth. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon on a Woodcutters Journey experiencing the history of the area and it’s fauna and flora.

Day 6 – 7

Greater Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa

We will continue our tour today, traveling along the coastline and up to the third largest National Park of South Africa, the Addo Elephant National Park. This Park is home to many of Africa’s big game. Our vehicle gives us a better view on our game drive during the afternoon, especially for the photographers among us. We make a stop in the surfing city of Jeffrey’s Bay which is well known for it’s waves. You will have a chance to visit a quaint surfing museum or simply enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the infamous waves. The following morning you have an opportunity to visit Port Elizabeth before making your way back to camp for a delicious lunch. The rest of the afternoon is spent time exploring the Addo Elephant Park.

Day 8

Graaff Reinet, South Africa

We leave the Addo National Park today and we travel to the heartland of the Great Karoo – boasting an enriching history of the fourth oldest town in South Africa. In the evening you can enjoy a visit to the Valley of Desolation for a sundowner excursion – the valley offers magnificent views of the the town and the wide open plains. Kindly note during the winter months this will become a Sunrise excursion to the Valley of Desolation the next morning.

Day 9 – 10

Lesotho – Malealea

Today we will make our entrance into the incredible mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Lesotho is one of the world’s highest countries, lying over 1000m above sea level. Crossing the Orange River, we travel up high into the mountains where we stay for the next two evenings. The following day we wake up early and are given an opportunity to partake in a Pony Trekking Excursion through the secluded hills of Lesotho, accompanied by local guides. On your way back to our camping site, the group will visit the local village and school.

Day 11 – 12

Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, South Africa

Leaving Lesotho behind we travel through the Golden Gate and make our way to  our next destination for the following two days. The Drakensberg Mountains range has some of South Africa’s highest and most incredible mountains. We explore the mountain trails and take our time to enjoy the breathtaking sights in the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg National Park. On our second day, we go for a guided hike with a local guide to see some of the renowned San rock paintings. We encourage everyone to make the most of the day and explore this magnificent mountain area at leisure.

Day 13

KwaZulu-Natal Coast – Durban, South Africa

We will travel downwards as we leave the mountains and make our way to the KwaZulu-Natal Coast. The lively city of Durban is South Africa’s most famous surfing spot, our tour ends here.

Onward Travel Plans

Due to circumstances beyond our control while on tour (such as border crossings, traffic, breakdowns and delays, etc), the end time on the last day cannot be guaranteed. Therefore we strongly recommend you stay the night and fly out the next day. Please consult with your booking consultant.
